Why are RIBs popular?

RIBs have become more popular nowadays due to adaptability. RIBs come in all shapes and sizes however the most popular designs are for a long, thin profound V frame that will perform magnificently in rough seas. However, they can be erratic, and wet, especially while going through swells. Most RIB purchasers are searching for a fast seaworthy general purpose craft. Solid under feet with wide inflatable sponsons are the usual layout. This structure suits long ocean travels in shifting conditions and has extra interior space. One of the reasons RIBs are popular.

Regardless of whether the sponsons sit over the water or are halfway drenched significantly affects the attributes of the vessel. The lower the cylinders, the more steady the vessel while not under power. There are two main materials that most RIBs are made from –  Hypalon, an engineered elastic has been the most across the board material for tube development as it offers incredible UV insurance and is anything but difficult to fix. It is the most hard wearing of the two materials  However, a  lower-cost material is PVC. Thermo-reinforced seals are heat welded as opposed to stuck and have a significantly longer life expectancy and are far simpler to fix, but can be easily damaged on a rocky shore. So if you do not use beach landing but mainly marinas this type of RIB would be value for money.

Seating and centre consoles are the most popular layout on RIBs because they are safer than sitting on the sponsons. When travelling fast you really need to be in a position where you can hold on securely. All RIBs have not only a solid hull but a solid reinforced transom to withstand extreme forces from large outboard engines. Some can take two large outboards which adds to the safety factor.

Storage under the seating area allows for anchor and warp, lifejackets and additional fuel. RIBs are extremely manoeuvrable at sea and within confined spaces such as marinas. This is another reason that RIBs are so popular. Here are a few to view –
